oil change

Keep Your Car Driving Smoothly By Monitoring These Five Things

Driving a car is potentially one of the most dangerous things that you can do. But you can prevent problems by monitoring the following five functions. This can help you to prevent an accident, breaking down, and make sure you have a smooth ride. Oil Check Checking your oil is by far the most important weekly check you can do to keep your car running smoothly. This is an easy check that you can do yourself, simply pull out the dipstick to see where the oil level is. In more modern cars the oil gauge on the dashboard will alert you to low oil levels. more Tires Invest in a tire pressure gauge or check the pressure of your tires at the gas station. Improperly inflated tires can cause blowouts, leading to an accident and poor fuel efficiency. It is important to check your tire pressure regularly. Tires have built-in tread wear indicators. When the tread becomes even with the indicator ridges it is time to invest a new set of tires. Monitor the wear on your tires monthly by running your hand over the tread. If anything feels weird, pop down to a tire shop to have them checked. Your tires can slip or blow out if they are smooth, both of which can cause a bad accident. Lights It is very dangerous to drive if your lights aren't in good working order. Regularly check your brake lights, turn signals, headlights, and reverse lights. Functioning lights are essential to avoiding accidents. As an extra incentive remember that if you are caught with a light out on your car, you could end up getting a ticket which could mean higher car insurance. Air Filter A clogged air filter is like putting a sock over your mouth and trying to breathe. You won't get much air in and you will feel gross. Your engine feels the same way with a clogged air filter. A clogged air filter will also result in reduced gas mileage, lower horsepower, or even a stalled engine. Air filters need to be checked and changed regularly; most manufacturers recommend changing the air filter every 5,000 miles. Brake Pads Good brakes are essential, so how often do your car's brake pads need to be changed? The wear on your brake pads depends on a number of factors, such as how you drive, what type of driving you do, the quality of your brake pads, the weight of your car, and the condition of the brake rotors. Brake pads need to be changed when the built-in wear indicator alerts you. There is usually a small metal tab on the brake pad which will start to screech or scrape around the brake rotor. When you hear this, it is time to change the brake pads. If you ignore this signal, you can damage your rotor, making the brake less effective, which is dangerous and could cost you more money. Keep your car driving smoothing by regularly checking these five functions. By doing this you can save fuel, money, and even your life. https://www.flickr.com/photos/29233640@N07/3285710885/sizes/l Image via Flickr by Robert Couse-Baker

3 Signs Your Brakes Need to be Checked

When it comes to your continued safety, there's no more important car component than your braking system. While it would be nice if your brakes always functioned the way they should, this isn't the reality. Car braking systems can experience problems that may put you at risk. To make sure you have consistent stopping power, it's important to learn some of the red flags that indicate your brakes need professional attention. Here are some of the warning signs that your brakes need to be checked and advice for protecting yourself and your vehicle. Pulling to One Side One of the most noticeable warning signs your brakes need attention is your vehicle drifting to one side or the other when you press on the brake pedal. Whether your vehicle veers right or left while braking, pulling to one side can be a big problem with several possible causes. more In most cases, your car pulling sideways is a result of your brake pads wearing unevenly, although it may also be caused by a brake hose that's collapsed or a jammed brake caliper. Since a vehicle drifting when braking can easily cause an accident, you should visit your local dealership as soon as possible if you're experiencing this issue. Noises From Your Brakes Hearing odd noises when you brake your car is another big warning sign that you need to schedule an inspection right away. Squealing is one of the most common sounds you'll hear when pressing your brake pedal. If you hear this noise, it means your brake pads are almost completely worn and need to be replaced. Grinding is an even more serious sound that shouldn't be ignored. When you brake your car and hear grinding, it means metal braking system parts are contacting each other, usually your rotors and calipers. This can cause serious damage in your braking system and needs professional attention immediately to protect your vehicle. Brake Pedal Vibrations and Other Problems Your brake pedal can sometimes let you know that you need to schedule a service appointment for your system. For instance, if you feel the pedal vibrating, this may mean that your brake rotors have become warped or have worn unevenly. If this has occurred, the effectiveness of your braking system will be limited. Another issue to watch out for is if pressing your brake pedal is too easy. When pressing your pedal, there should be some resistance. If the pedal easily goes all the way to the floor, it means there's an issue with your system. If the brake pedal is too easy to press, it could mean that your car is leaking braking fluid. This problem may also be a result of a faulty hydraulic system or completely worn brake pads. When you press your brake pedal, you want to know that your vehicle will stop quickly and effectively. Fortunately, as long as you watch out for these common warning signs and schedule service from your local dealership, you should easily be able to maintain your car's stopping power.   Check out our service and parts specials at Davis-Moore CDJRF! Traffic Tips - Davis-Moore Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram FIAT

Five Tips for Driving in High Traffic Areas

Fewer things are more frustrating or stressful than driving in high traffic areas. To make things worse, one in every four car accidents happen during rush hour traffic. Whether it be because of the volume of vehicles on the road all rushing to get to or from work, or because traffic moves slower causing drivers to become distracted, rush hour is dangerous. Whether you like it or not, most people have to spend time in traffic. Here are five tips to safe, alert, and calm in heavy traffic. Slow Down Traffic slows down automatically when there is a higher volume of cars on the road. Frustration due to slow traffic tempts drivers to either drive faster to avoid a delay or to zigzag between lanes. Weaving between lanes is dangerous as other drivers can't predict what you will do, so they may also change lanes as you approach. Neither of these options will save you much time.  A better option is to drive safely by slowing down, staying in your lane, and proceeding with caution. more Keep a Safe Following Distance Never tailgate the car in front of you. Maintaining at least a three-second buffer between your car and the car in front of you means that you may have enough time to react if the cars in front of you suddenly brake. Unfortunately, you have no control of the cars behind you, but keeping a front buffer will give you a couple of extra seconds to react in case of the unexpected. Indicate Use your indicator or lights to communicate your driving intentions to other drivers. Letting other drivers know what you are doing helps them to prepare what they will do. it also benefits you because drivers will often give you the gap that you need to change lanes. Stay Alert Driving in slow-moving traffic can be very boring, but this is not the time to check your phone. Just because you are moving slower does not make it safer. To text you need to take your eyes off the road for about five seconds; these few seconds are enough to cause a crash. If you need to make a call or text, first pull off the road. Always stay alert, maintaining a general awareness of traffic in front of you and behind you. Check blind spots and watch other drivers. Keep a lookout for road signs, construction works, or weather conditions to prepare yourself for any surprises along the way. Keep Cool It is very hard not to get impatient and angry in traffic. However, losing your cool on the road puts everyone in danger, and it leads to irresponsible and aggressive driving. Remember that anger has dangerous health consequences, such as stress and high blood pressure. Keep calm by taking deep breaths and listening to soothing music or audiobooks. Use these five tips to stay calm and drive safely. Remember that most drivers in high traffic areas face the same feelings of frustration and stress. Photo by pasa47 | Licensed under cc BY 2.0

Use your voice to manage your music playlist, adjust the radio station, or make a call, all without taking your focus off the road or your hands off the steering wheel. SiriusXM Traffic Plus and Travel Link Services You might be able to avoid traffic if you drive early in the morning or late into the evening, but most times it's inevitable. Instead of getting caught up in the mess, avoid the congestion of rush hour with Uconnect's SiriusXM Traffic Plus and Travel Link services. The former offers a detailed report of road closures, construction sites, accident sightings, and even your vehicle's traffic speed. The latter is also helpful in getting you to your destination quickly and safely, especially during a road trip. Travel Link brings up daily forecasts, major storm alerts, and weather maps to help you steer clear of potential dangers. It's also handy when navigating around town, as it keeps you up to date with local fuel rates, movie theater showings, and sports reports. Uconnect Access This feature helps you get to where you need to go with ease since it can be managed from the Uconnect Access mobile app. It lets you enjoy perks like Send ‘n Go, a system where you can search for destinations on your smartphone and then transfer the data to your Uconnect touchscreen for later use. Kansas is a wonderful state with a lot to offer tourists, from historic sites to natural attractions. If you're traveling to Wichita, make some time for a road trip around the state to check out some of its unusual attractions. These attractions are unlike any other in the country, and they will certainly make your trip more memorable. Check out these three weird attractions in Kansas. World's Largest Collection of the World's Smallest Versions of the World's Largest Things Located on South Main Street in Lucas, about 100 miles northwest of Wichita, the World's Largest Collection of the World's Smallest Versions of the World's Largest Things is a museum that showcases small replicas of the largest structures and objects in the world. more Created by artist Erika Nelson, these replicas are handcrafted from a variety of materials. As you tour the museum, you'll see miniature versions of well-known American roadside giants such as Big Brutus in West Mineral, Kansas; Albert the Bull of Audubon, Iowa; Talking Cow in Neillsville, Wisconsin; World's Largest Strawberry in Strawberry Point, Iowa; and Talking Paul Bunyan in Brainerd, Minnesota. You can visit this museum by appointment or by chance. Truckhenge Truckhenge is an installation artwork that consists of antique trucks partly buried in the ground. Ron Lessman created this monument as a response to an order from county officials to clean up his farm. He buried the rear ends of the trucks and held them in place with heavy concrete bases, making them look like they have just burst out from under the ground. The outspoken Lessman wrote slogans such as “Freedum Isn't Lost” and “Rise Up” across the vehicles. While it was initially considered an eyesore, this American henge was later designated as a work of art. Truckhenge is located about 110 miles northeast of Wichita on Northeast Brier Road in Topeka. To visit this attraction, you need to contact Lessman in advance to schedule an appointment. World's Largest Easel About 250 miles northwest of Wichita on Interstate 70 near Goodland, you'll find the Big Easel Project by Cameron Cross. In 2001, the Canadian artist started work on a massive reproduction of Vincent Van Gogh's “Three Sunflowers in a Vase.” Measuring 32 feet high and 24 feet wide, the painting is displayed on an 80-foot easel that easily attracts the attention of drivers on the highway. It was created to honor Goodland's primary economic activity, which is sunflower production. If you want to take a closer look at the painting, you can park your car in the parking lot behind it. At night, a spotlight is turned on to make viewing possible. There are many other weird attractions in Kansas, including the world's largest ball of twine, world's largest electric shovel, world's largest baseball, the Wheat Liberty Bell, and a 50-foot concrete teepee. These attractions provide excellent photo opportunities, and most of them are free of charge. Make sure your car is in tiptop condition before you hit the road. If you and your passengers want to feel even more open, augment your interior with the available CommandView Dual-Pane Panoramic Sunroof. An available memory system will also remember a driver's radio settings, mirror placement, and seat position and adjust to those settings at the push of a button. All-Terrain Capability The 2019 Cherokee wouldn't be a Jeep if it weren't capable enough to take you where your imagination determines. The Cherokee Trailhawk trim level sports the Trail Rated badge, which means that your Cherokee will perform well whether you're on the asphalt or tearing up a trail. A Trail Rated badge guarantees that your Jeep has especially tight and responsive maneuverability, reliable ground clearance and water fording, and confident traction. But you don't necessarily need a Trailhawk for your Cherokee to drive well in a variety of conditions. Any Cherokee with the available 4x4 system also comes equipped with the Selec-Terrain Traction Management System. This system features five modes: Auto, Sport, Snow, Sand/Mud, and Rock. Each mode adjusts throttle, torque, and much more to improve traction in any condition. Performance with a Punch If you're looking for a crossover, you likely want a vehicle that marries the efficient size of a smaller vehicle with the power and performance of a larger one. The 2019 Cherokee delivers both. Cherokee drivers get to choose between three powerful engine options. The 2.4-liter Tigershark MultiAir engine generates 180 horsepower and 170 pound-feet of torque, while the 3.2-liter Pentastar V-6 engine kicks it up to 271 horsepower and 239 pound-feet of torque, and the 2-liter Turbo engine produces 270 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. If the Jeep's capability won't limit your destination, then you need to be able to tow your toys wherever adventure takes you. The 2019 Jeep Cherokee can tow up to 4,500 pounds and with standard trailer sway damping, you can haul with confidence. The 2019 Jeep Cherokee finds the ideal balance between size and power, between capability and performance, and between customization and standard features. Once you step foot in the 2019 Cherokee, you'll never go back. To see for yourself if the 2019 Jeep Cherokee is the crossover for you, come down to Davis-Moore Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram.
