Trim Levels
You can choose from the four different Compass Trim levels. The entry-level Sport gets you 16-inch wheels, black door handles, and heated side mirrors, or you can bump up to the Latitude for 17-inch alloy wheels, automatic headlights, and body-colored door handles, along with fog lights and roof rails. The Limited adds 18-inch alloy wheels and some upgraded exterior trim elements. If you want to take your Compass off-road, the Trailhawk trim is what you need. This comes with an off-road-tuned suspension, a raised ride height, skid plates, red tow hooks, off-road tires, and a matte-black hood accent to make it stand out from the other trims in the lineup. Some of the popular options Jeep makes available depending on the model include a sunroof, a power liftgate, and xenon headlights.
Engine
All the Compass models come with the same 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine, which produces 180 horsepower and 175 pound-feet of torque. It comes standard with front-wheel drive with the option for all-wheel drive on all the models except the Trailhawk, which comes standard with an all-wheel-drive system. You'll get the option for a six-speed manual transmission with the Sport and Latitude, but all come standard with either a six- or nine-speed automatic.
Performance
The Compass cruises smoothly down the road earning an EPA rating of 22 miles per gallon in the city and 31 mpg on the highway with the automatic transmission and front-wheel drive. Hop into the Trailhawk and head over rough terrain to see what this little SUV can really do though. The Active Drive Low four-wheel-drive system and Selec-Terrain Management System will tackle almost any road surface and make it look easy.
Interior
There is room for up to five passengers in the Compass and everyone sits on premium cloth upholstery in the lower trims or leather in the higher-end models. Up front, the power-adjustable driver's seat adds to the upscale feeling cabin, along with the heated front seats and available leather-wrapped steering wheel. A 7-inch touch screen and the Uconnect infotainment system both come standard, and you'll also get two USB ports, Bluetooth, and voice controls. Jeep offers an 8.4-inch touch screen, satellite radio, a Beats premium stereo system, and an optional navigation system.
Safety Features
The 2019 Compass has a rearview camera, anti-lock disc brakes, and both traction and stability control with a rollover protection system. It also comes with seven air bags, including a driver's side knee air bag. If you add the Advanced Safety package, you'll get adaptive cruise control, a lane departure warning with mitigation, automatic high beams, and a forward collision mitigation system with automatic emergency braking.
